Abstract

This study investigates the influence of industrial effluent treatment efficiency on downstream river sediment quality in the Buriganga and Dhaleshwari Rivers, Bangladesh. The research examines heavy metal contamination including Cu, Cd, Pb, Cr, Zn, and Mn in water and sediment samples from industrially affected regions.

The study demonstrates the relationship between inefficient effluent treatment systems and downstream sediment contamination, highlighting the ecological risks associated with persistent heavy metal accumulation. Statistical analyses including Pearson correlation, ANOVA, and Bray–Curtis cluster analysis were applied to identify contamination patterns and industrial pollution impacts.

Research focus: Industrial effluent treatment, heavy metal contamination, sediment quality assessment, river pollution, and sustainable wastewater management.
